The biblical idea of destiny and its actual outworking are
two different things. To what degree we experience God’s intentions
for us is based on our submission to Him. I agree
with the Greek philosopher Heraklitos, who wrote “Ethos Anthropos
Daimon”, or, in English, “A man’s character is his fate.”
Another ancient proverb states, “A man’s own folly ruins his
life, yet his heart rages against the Lord.” We can’t blame God,
or fate, when our own choices bankrupt our lives.
